Mfangano Island Camp
The Mfangano Island Camp is part of the Governor’s Camp Group and the standards are typically luxurious and exclusive.Set among gnarled fig trees and tropical gardens on a tiny island in Lake Victoria Mfangano Island Camp provides a peaceful lakeside atmosphere. Mfangano Island Camp is approximately an hour flight from Nairobi and approximately 6 hours if traveling by road with an extra 45 minutes by boat ride. With the exception of April and May, the camp is opened all year round.

The camp consists of six recently renovated cottages, crafted of clay and banana thatch. These roundavels are divided into 4 Double Roundavels and 2 Twin Roundavels with facilities including en suite bathrooms, basin, flush toilet and hot and cold running water. The cottages at Mfangano Island Camp are open, with views of the lake. Each room has a private verandah with sun loungers and views of Lake Victoria. There is a ‘horizon’ stone swimming pool on the lake shore for guests to enjoy. Dining is at the open sitting room that has a bar and dining room decorated in ethnic style Mfangano Island Camp is perfectly situated for bird watching, with a number of native species including sea birds. Bird watching excursions are also offered (including day trips via aircraft to Kakamega Forest), as are boat rides, fishing expeditions, guided walks, and a variety of water sports.
