Peponi Hotel is small hotel on the island of Lamu is still run by the Korschen family, who opened the hotel in 1967 and still retains much of the character and charm that it had then. Small and personal, it offers the perfect destination for relaxation after a safari or a hide away holiday from modern life. Peponi is situated at one end of the spectacular twelve kilometer Shela Beach. Flanked by ancient sand dunes, the beach is one of the few remaining untouched, empty stretches of coastline in Kenya. It provides white sands, excellent swimming and an idyllic setting for a walk at dawn or sunset.

Peponi has 24 rooms which are categorized into superior and standard rooms; the main difference being that superior rooms have a different location, size and private outside area with swing bed. All rooms at Peponi have ocean views, overhead fans, mosquito nets, showers, and personal safes. Aside from toiletries, beach and bath towels the hotel provides colorful kikois to wear either to the beach or as evening wear for men, a flask of chilled drinking water, writing paper, laundry service , Hairdryers, cots, extra beds and baby baths are also available on request.Peponi is home to Lamu Marine Conservation Trust (Lamcot) that was started by Peponi Hotel in 1992. The project began with the translocation of a turtle nest to the hotel grounds for protection. The project has since grown to an established trust, managed by Carol Korschen of Peponi Hotel.
